If you could clarify for me the next questions I would be happy :) But I'm still not sure that having a payment there is the best approach to getting longterm funding, but I'll concede that I don't really know what I'm talking about there. The first original post was when I thought the payment would not go to Krita. And working towards a thriving community.

KRITA FOR MAC FREE INSTALL
For the background story, see the first announcement: and the follow-up with the story about the description and some data how many users download Krita from the store and from the website: Īlso for example on Windows S users need to get apps from Windows Store, they can't install it otherwise.įirst thanks for answering, I appreciate the time and effort going into creating the software and doing community outreach.
KRITA FOR MAC FREE FOR FREE
On Windows Store however it's not permitted to point to a different source for the program, it was actually written that you can get it for free on the website but Boud had to remove it because the rules for the Store are what they are. On Steam our volunteer /u/emmetpdx is trying very hard to make sure everyone knows it's free and open source and community-based. Of course we would prefer if people who are willing to pay would just go to the website and donate since for them it's little difference (at least financially), but the reality shows that donations are still very low (2k - 2.5k for a month, much less than you need for one developer for a month - while Krita has around 3 millions of users!), while the income from Windows Store and Steam allows us to get more developers so Krita can thrive. On Steam and Windows Store, the store takes 30-40% from every purchase. At the end of the day, if you have 10 dollars or 99 kr as I see on the screenshot and you want to give it to Krita, use the donation button then Krita Foundation will get all the 99 kr. So we basically see it as a way to support Krita development in exchange for some small advantages. Krita from the website won't update itself, Krita on Steam and Windows Store will do because those stores are taking care of it. Krita is also available on Windows Store and Steam for a price so people who like having Krita there or don't want to think about updating it or want to support Krita and have some additional advantages can get it there. Basically, Krita is free of charge on the website so all people can get it if needed.
